Pull Up a Chair — Let’s Talk Camp

Here at Kangaroo Provisions, we hear it all the time — how a great camp trunk can make a camper’s summer smoother, more organized, and a whole lot more fun.

Parents tell us how the rugged design makes them feel confident sending their kids off to camp. Campers love how easy the wheels make it to roll into the cabin like a pro. But the real magic? It’s what the trunk represents: independence, excitement, and memories that last a lifetime.

As someone who’s been there myself — both as a camper and a counselor — I know how powerful those summers can be. I’ve even held onto my old trunk through the years. It's more than just storage. It’s part of the story.

Carson’s Favorite Camp Memory

I spent eight unforgettable summers at Camp Longhorn in Texas — three weeks at a time — and eventually returned as a counselor. It’s hard to pick just one favorite memory, but the one that’s always stuck with me didn’t come from a single moment. It came from watching growth happen in real time.

That summer, my cabin was a mix of personalities: some kids were loud and confident from the jump, while others were quiet, homesick, or nervous about trying new things. A few were scared to jump onto the Blob. Some refused to dance at dance nights. But over three weeks, something amazing happened.

With the encouragement of supportive counselors and cabinmates, each camper slowly started to come out of their shell. One by one, they tackled their fears — whether it was jumping into the lake, standing up in front of a crowd, or just letting loose. The change wasn’t forced or fast. It was organic, and that made it even more meaningful.

By the end of the session, you’d have thought these kids had been best friends their whole lives. They cheered each other on, made inside jokes, and built bonds that felt deeper than the short time they'd actually spent together.

Watching that transformation — seeing kids grow in confidence and character — reminded me exactly why camp is such a special place. Attaway to go!

Carson’s Footlocker

My camp trunk went with me everywhere in the summer! From Boy Scout camp to Camp Longhorn, I put the miles on that trunk. With each sticker carefully placed to not overlap any others, while proudly displaying the Camp Longhorn logo in the center, it was uniquely mine.

My mom likes to tell the story of how I returned home from my first summer at camp with an entire layer of untouched clothes, toothpaste, and towels at the bottom of my trunk! Over the years, I mastered the packing and unpacking of my trunk to perfectly hold everything I needed to survive for weeks at a time, and yes, I did finally start brushing my teeth at camp!

Each scratch and dent told a story - from using it as a step stool for a top bunk to dragging it through the dirt to get to my cabin miles away from the bus dropoff. A camp trunk goes through a lot over the years and that's why buying one to last is so important!

Camp’s Lasting Legacy

Camp is a big step. For many kids, it’s the first time they’re truly on their own — building friendships, learning independence, and discovering who they are outside of home. Their trunk becomes their personal space, their home base. And long after camp ends, it becomes a keepsake — a time capsule full of notes, photos, and dusty reminders of unforgettable summers.

That’s why we put so much care into every Kangaroo Footlocker. We’re not just making trunks — we’re making gear that supports adventure, growth, and a little bit of homespun tradition.
